Open Doors, a dream

As the first day of this new year opened, I awoke from sleep remembering a dream from the night. This memory caused me to feel a joy and hope as I pondered on the new year we had just come into.

In this dream, there were a few things that struck my heart. I’d like to share those with you.

-we must be as little children in order to enter into the open doors (God-given opportunities to walk in His will) God will lead each of us to

Matthew 18:1-4 “…unless you turn and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven…”

-we must go low in humility and serve others, especially the next generation

Luke 22:24 “…let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as the one who serves…”

This is the way of God’s kingdom. These are not new ideas. But somehow, they’re finding newness in my heart right now.

Often, I want to rush into running with something the Lord shows me or gives to me. It’s too easy to get going, pack up the revelation I get from Him in a little box, and set out on a journey to discover the next thing in His word. But in my heart I truly long to yield to His slower process of being still, waiting, and listening to understand HIS HEART over time.

I need His help to do this. I ask Him for it often. And I feel His pleasure in my asking for His help. His Holy Spirit was given to us as our Helper. I don’t believe He complains about His job :)

He loves to help us.

And He’s not in a hurry.

A Prayer

If you find yourself in a hurry lately, trying to get things done, trying to make life work, trying to “get ahead”, I pray your heart would be still so you can know Him. I pray you know our crucified, risen and soon returning Jesus afresh this year. May you discover the beauty of the passions in His heart.

“Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of Hosts is with us. The God of Jacob [Israel] is our fortress.”

Psalm 46:10-11
